WR2-01: Spann Island

Two strategies for this one, I’m listing both.

Strategy 1, by The Rose’s Thorn:

Spann Island Guide

Opponent: Andy

Speed requirement: 10 Days

Points: 300 (S-Rank)

Days: 8

















Sami Day 1: Build 4 infantry.
Andy Day 1: Build 4 infantry.
Sami Day 2: Move Infantry in northern most base 2N 1E and begin capturing, move infantry in base directly west of HQ 3N and begin capturing. Move infantry in base directly south of HQ 3E. Move infantry in farthest east base 2N and 1E and begin capturing. Build 2 mechs, one at each of the 2 northern bases.
Andy Day 2: Move infantry at western most base 2W 1S and begin capturing. Move infantry at southern most base 1S 2W and begin capturing. Move infantry at base directly east of HQ 3S and begin capturing. Move infantry at base NE of HQ 3S. Build an APC at western most base and an infantry at southern most base.
Sami Day 3: Finish capturing the 3 cities you began capturing last turn. Move other infantry 1S and begin capturing. Move mech at northern most base 1N 1E. Move mech at base directly west of HQ 2N. Build an APC at the northern most base.
Andy Day 3: Finish capturing the 3 cities he began to capture last turn. Move APC 1E 1S onto HQ. Move infantry at southern most base 1W 2S. Move infantry directly below that base 2W 1S. Build recon at southern most base.
Sami Day 4: Finish capturing city. Move western Mech 1S and load onto the APC. Move APC 3E 4N. Move remaining mech 1N 1E. Move western most infantry 1N 2E. Move infantry from city 3N of HQ 2N 1E. Move remaining infantry 3N. Build an APC at eastern most base. Build a mech at the base 1S of HQ.
Andy Day 4: Move recon 5W 1N. Move infantry from northern captured city 2S and begin to capture. Begin to capture western city on the SE island. Move an infantry right above infantry capturing on the SE island. Move infantry so that there are 2 in a line under the northern capturing infantry (one under the capturing infantry, one underneath that one). Build tank at eastern most base.
Sami Day 5: Move northern APC 6E 1S and unload mech onto mountain. Move southern infantry 2E. Load southern mech into the APC. Move southern APC 5E 1N. Move infantry that had been under the northern APC 1E. Move mech 1N 1E. Move infantry to the left of the mech 1N 1E. Move remaining infantry 2E. Build tank at eastern most base.
Andy Day 5: Begin to capture southern city right in front of your infantry. Finish capturing city on SE island and begin to capture the other city there. Attack southern APC with infantry from above. Finish capturing city. Move recon 1N 2W and attack infantry on road. Build Artillery at southern most base. (Note: the following step does not usually occur, see alternates at the end) Move APC 1N off of HQ.
Sami Day 6: Move tank 5E and attack capturing infantry. Attack capturing infantry with your own infantry. Move mech 2E and attack artillery. Move injured infantry 2W. Move mech 1N 1E and destroy recon. Move remaining northern infantry as far east as you can (3E and 1N 1E). Move southern loaded APC 4N 3E and unload onto the HQ. Move injured APC onto base above artillery. Build a tank at the eastern most base and infantry at all the others. Move the APC that was attacked by the tank to 1 space above the artillery. (note: if the artillery is at the western base, load the mech on the mountain back onto the APC that was attacked by the tank and move it to the base in the NE corner and unload the mech to the south.)
Andy Day 6: Attack mech on HQ with artillery. Move APC 3W (doesn’t always happen, if not, just move the mech on the HQ next turn 1E and attack the artillery instead. nothing else changes). Finish capturing city on SE island. Attack infantry with his own, down south. Attack eastern APC with infantry. Build recon at NE base, and build infantry at NW base.
Sami Day 7: Move western tank 5E 1N and attack infantry (kill it if possible, if not attack it with you damaged infantry). Move tank 1S 3E and attack infantry. Move mech on HQ 1N (don’t attack). Move all northern infantry and mech east. Build all infantry and one tank at your bases. Move mech 1N and begin to capture HQ.
Andy Day 7: Attack capturing infantry with artillery. Attack blocking mech with recon and infantry. Attack other units around the map.
Sami Day 8: The end is nigh. Go ahead and build all infantry at your bases this turn to ensure technique, and be sure to go around killing every unit you can now for power. When you’ve done all that, finish capturing the HQ for your 8 day victory.


Alternates: The AI in this game does not always follow a set pattern, although it is usually only a few derivatives per move. From what I have found of Spann Island, the most common changes are as follows:


Movement of the recon on day 4. It can move it to 3 different locations; the strategy doesn’t change on where it moves it, just a few tactical changes on your part, nothing too hard.


Placement of Artillery on western most base instead of the southern most base. This can actually be an issue, but just invert your movements and be sure to block off the HQ from the new opened side.


Not moving the APC off of the HQ. This seems like a big issue, but it really isn’t. Instead of attacking the artillery with your mech from the mountain, attack the APC. Then unload the southern APC onto the eastern most base.

First of all, I would like to thank SaitoForteX for this strategy.

Sami Day 1: Build APC on easternmost base.

Andy Day 1: Build 4 infantry.

Sami Day 2: Move APC 3 east. Build an infantry from the base you just moved the APC from. Build an Recon in the northernmost base.

Andy Day 2: Begin capturing 3 cities around his HQ. Move infantry at base NE of HQ 3S. Build an APC at westernmost base and an infantry at southernmost base.

Sami Day 3: Move the Recon 1 west of the north bridge (as it is the far you can go). Load the infantry into the APC and move it 3 east and 4 north, dropping it east into the mountain. Build a Recon at northernmost base.

Andy Day 3: Finish capturing the 3 cities he began to capture last turn. Now, you have to make sure that he doesn’t move his APC into his HQ, blocking you from capturing it. He will also build a Recon from his southernmost base.

Sami Day 4: Began capturing Andy’s HQ. Attack the infantry just north of your APC with the available Recon. Move your other Recon in the space the first was. Save here, as you must go back if Andy attacks your infantry with the Recon AND one infantry. If this happen, go back and move your APC just west of his APC. This will lure his infantry away for some reason (worked with me).

Andy Day 4: Let him do whatever he likes. The only important thing is that he will attack your infantry with his Recon. If he attacks it with one infantry, it will be destroyed, so restart map and try again until he moves favorably.

Sami Day 5: Destroy the infantry you were attacking last turn with your 2 Recons. Finish capturing Andy’s HQ.
